Reporting Line:  R&D Analytical Manager

 

Job Purpose

The Research & Development team are responsible for developing new photochromic ophthalmic lens products.  The R&D Analytical team carry out the required physical, chemical and optical testing of new photochromic products, coating layers and individual chemical components. The R&D Analytical Chemistry technician has primary responsibility for all aspects of the chemical testing.

Key Responsibilities of the Role

  • Perform chemical testing on a range of analytical equipment including KF, GC, GC/MS, FT-IR, and HPLC to support the development of photochromic ophthalmic lens products
  • Support the maintenance, calibration for laboratory test instrumentation
  • Interpret, document and effectively communicate test results
  • Support in the development of new test methods for analytical chemical testing on ophthalmic lenses, coating solutions, and raw materials
  • Work with the R&D product development teams as required in data analysis
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of work completed and compilation of results
  • Provide technical support and assistance to chemists and engineers as required
  • Write technical reports to document experimental results
  • Order and inventory materials in order to maintain supplies
  • Interpret, document and communicate test results

 

Key Requirements (Education and Experience)

  • Level 7 or 8 B.S. qualification in Chemistry or Analytical Sciences
  • Knowledge of operating and maintaining laboratory equipment

•     Good IT skills, working knowledge of Microsoft office

  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders on technical content
  • Competent to convert technical data to presentation to wider audience.
  • Knowledge of laboratory systems
  • Strong team player and self-starter
  • Drive for results and Customer focus attention to detail.

 

Desirable

  • Chromatography experience in a product development (R&D) environment
  • Wet chemistry experience
  • Prolific on application of Excel beyond basic level
  • Competent in Communications and presentation of technical data.
  • Experience in a Laboratory environment
