Job Description – HR Manager Switzerland


Job Purpose


To ensure Essilor Suisse, Reize and ETSCS businesses receive high quality of HR generalist support, The HR Manager will work closely with the business leaders in supporting the business and driving the HR agenda. Key to the role is the effective daily management of transactional HR activities alongside with more strategic HR topics developing business partnering capability. The role will be part of the Swiss Business Leadership team and HR European Leadership team and may involve cross-cluster responsibilities and/or projects.


Key Responsibilities


Business Partnering

  • Anticipate, plan and execute HR activities in context of broader business decision

  • Have a deep understanding of the businesses and their processes in designated cluster and possess business acumen

  • Provide meaningful input to Annual Business Budget  

  • Participate in establishing and/or controlling HR budget 

  • Demonstrate current knowledge of contemporary trends in HR 

  • Build trusting relationships with key business customers


Program Management

  • Participate to European HR projects and implement the outcomes/ new processes locally

  • Ensure local HR projects are managed with rigour and appropriate follow-up

  • Quickly identify and mitigate risks in projects to ensure timely and effective local HR project execution



  • Understand and embrace use of HR systems 

  • Ensure that HR systems are used effectively and that HR data standards are updated 

  • Provide HR reports, analysis and progression rates (annual performance reviews completion, career & development discussions completion, people review, …)

  • Monitor absenteeism rate and working time recordings



  • Ensure that selection practices are fair and consistently reveal candidates with the greatest potential 

  • Launch job requisitions, follow and support recruitment in collaboration with TA Europe team and participate to final recruitment decisions

  • Lead staffing activities for senior leadership positions

  • Foster internal talents and mobility

  • Know the Swiss market and competitors to attract talents 

  • Organise onboarding for new employees

  • Participate and/or animate interviews for the end of trial period, reframing, departure, …

  • Manage the administrative life cycle of employees (contracts, permits, salaries, attendance / absences, withholding taxes, modifications, certificates, end-of-year listing, etc.) [salaries largely outsourced]


Organisational Development

  • Facilitate change efforts of small-to-moderate scale and complexity 

  • Ensure strong employee communications across client groups particularly through times of change

  • Advise leaders and facilitate multi-site level organization redesign 

  • Partner with COE resources on larger-scale change or organization design efforts 


Talent Development

  • Lead Performance Management and Talent Review process

  • Provide coaching for mid and executive level leaders 

  • Ensure talent pipeline for leadership and critical positions

  • Be an employee engagement ambassador 



  • Assess and understand learning needs and opportunities

  • Propose learning paths, co-define with managers individual development plans and follow action plans

  • Work to ensure successful rollout of learning initiatives

  • Be an ambassador of group learning & development programs, inform locally and encourage employees to self-develop themselves


Compensation and Benefits

  • Demonstrate thorough understanding and application of compensation and benefits principles, concepts, practices, and standards 

  • Have oversight of the Annual Salary and Bonus Review process providing advice and guidance to managers, ensuring deadlines are met and performance appreciations are well included in the process

  • Educate managers about compensation programs and policies

  • Championdeploy, communicate and follow Company Shareholding programs 


Employee / Labour Relations

  • Understand the business culture and employee mindset to assist leadership in balanced decision making 

  • Implement the strategic plan defining how employee/labour relations support the business objectives 

  • Implement Positive Employee Relations strategies 

  • Demonstrate awareness of external labour environment, Swiss Cantons reglementation, climate and activity 

  • Demonstrate strong conflict management and resolution skill



  • Participate in the animation of various internal events (World Sight Day, Good Vision, end of year meal, etc.)

  • Communicate on various topics to all businesses (organizational notes, journal, newcomers, regulations, Group kick off campaigns, …)

  • Intervene in various management meetings 



Experience/Education Required


  • Graduate or equivalent, HR qualification preferred

  • Strong HR generalist experience at management level

  • Experience of working in a large multinational, matrix organisation - an industrial experience would be a plus

  • People management 

  • Fluent English and French, German language would also be appreciated 

  • At ease with IT systems and IT applications (reporting skills, Microsoft suite, …)
