Title:  Production Supervisor

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Production Supervisor has two major functions:

  • Maintenance (daily activities) using the Production Management System – Employees follow current standards to achieve expected results. The objective of Maintenance is to make certain that things do not go out of control, which requires effort and a strong sense of discipline
  • Improvement (LIFE - Lean Initiatives for Excellence) --- Enhancing and upgrading current standards by continually establishing new and higher targets

 

SPECIFIC DUTIES:

Resource Management

Working environment:

    • Ensure a safe working environment at all times by owning and driving the BBS program within department.  Ensure a safety first mindset within the team
    • Maintains a 2 way communication with team members, group leader, Production Manager and stake holders.
    • Demonstrate ideal behaviors at all time (Timeliness, Respect for every individual, for the process and for the product, DDI feedbacks, compliance to all standards at all time, continuous commitment to excellence)
    • Creates and maintains a positive atmosphere where employees thrive to excel and do their best

Manpower management:

    • Ensure the shift is starting properly
    • Track and act on absenteeism
    • Addresses all human relation issues in a timely manner, partnering with HR and the Production Manager where applicable
    • Cover for other supervisors when absent according to pre defined rules
    • Allow time and guidance for BBS activities to ensure success for the observers and for the team

Training & Skill management:

    • Responsible for improving job performance through working with the group leaders to; identify skills improvement opportunities,  plan/coordinate internal/external training efforts, assist Engineers, SMEs, and Training Manager in the development of new training programs
    • Develop and coordinate training plan for group leaders
    • Partner with and coach group leads on developing and implementing prioritized training plan for all associates
    • Track, Report and monitor teams performance and provide constructive feedback and appropriate training and support for team to reach the standard expected performance level.
    • Develop group leaders and associates problem solving capability through dynamic facilitation and through promoting the basic tools of structured problem solving tools such as 5-whys, fishbone diagram...

 

 

 

 

Apply Standard

  • Own outcome of Safety, Quality, Cost, Delivery and Morale (SQCDM)
  • Apply standard work for the supervisor
  • Create an environment where applying the standard is a way of life
  • Audit standard work for group leaders
  • Audit the process
  • Review and sign off on work instructions
  • Train to standards according to the TWI approach and using our existing training management system

Solve Problems

  • Create an environment where it is okay to have a problem, but not okay to not report it
  • Track shift/value stream outcome and provide support accordingly
  • Ensure that all problems that prevent applying the standards are recorded and tracked
  • Challenge and mentor the leads on problem solving
  • Escalate problems that are not within the leads control
  • Own the “act” phase of problem solving

Focused Improvement

  • Plan, facilitate LIFE activities and ensure that goals are met
  • Support, coach, mentor and challenge leads and associates

Continuous Improvement

  • Create an environment where ideas are expected and encouraged
  • Challenge/mentor leads to stimulate ideas
  • Challenge/mentor leads on the quality of the ideas
  • Support implementation
  • Own the “act” phase of the idea --- linkage to all four shifts in the value stream or department

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree or 5+ years experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment at a group lead level or higher
  • Ability to demonstrate analysis, judgment, planning, organizing, and communication (verbal, written and listening) and feedback skills
  • Proven leadership with successful teaching/coaching and motivation skills
  • Strong human relations skills
  • Able to set a good example to employees with regard to company policies and procedures
  • Able to motivate others, including teams, and challenge individuals to come up with new ideas
  • Able to translate complex information into simple, understandable steps
  • Respected by peers and management for both attitude and work ethic
  • Must be highly motivated and display a positive attitude along with pride in work
  • Willingness to be self-directed
  • TWI training method/approach knowledge or experience preferred
  • Good understanding of Equipment Effectiveness Ratio (EER) metric
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills. Process improvement experience with one of the following: lean manufacturing (Kaizen, 5S) or Six Sigma.
  • Experience in performance management and increasing subordinates' skills and capabilities
  • Willingness to work flexible hours
  • Adapts well to change; champions change and is a calculated risk-taker.
