The Research & Development Department of Bangkok continues to increase its capabilities to accelerate the development of technologies that will help our Group to secure its leading position in the optical world. By combining polymer and mechanical knowledge, R&D BKK is aiming to develop its thermoset casting expertise and answer multiple needs in upstream research fields.

The main mission of the R&D mechanical engineer will be the designing & modeling & prototyping of dynamic complex surfaces.


Context and Main Challenges

The mechanical engineer will be in charge of developing a modulable complex surface answering strict technical specifications. The conception will comprehend the phases of ideation, 2D/3D modelisation and prototyping. Multiple technos bricks are expected to be delivered in this upstream work field.


Role & Responsibility

  • Build and convey a vision to steer expertise, execute corresponding roadmap.
  • Promote and reinforce expertise among the team.
  • Spark an innovation mindset to generate concepts relevant to the group's needs and strategy.
  • Follow-up and support R&D programs & activities within the team.
  • Follow-up department's budget (resource, OPEX, CAPEX).
  • Lead external collaborations, ensure appropriate legal & IP framework are setup with support from relevant departments.
  • Guarantee full EHS compliance with relevant regulations & policies.
  • Ensure your department operates in full confirmity with R&D policies & procedures.
  • Ensure ESSILOR Principles & Values implementation.



       •     Master’s degree or higher in mechanical engineering, material sciences and related fields with 1-2  years experience.

  • Proficient at computer aided design/modelling/simulation (CAD/CAM) --> Solidworks and Autocad software.
  • Stong knowledge of mechanics of materials
  • Design, develop and test machine prototypes
  • Data analysis skills using instrument software, Excel, minitab, etc and good reporting skill (technical reports and presentation)
  • Knowledgeable of geometric, dimension, & tolerancing (GD&T) specifications.
  • Reading/creating pneumatic & electrical diagrams.
  • Being able to read/create machine & process flowcharts.
  • Knowledgeable of DFMEA (Design Failure Mode and Effect Analysis ).
  • Polymers and polymerization, characterization methods, or all related technical fields.
  • Knowledge in scientific search (internet, patents, articles).
  • Solid skills in problem solving methodology and tools.
  • Work as a team in a multi-disciplinary and international research group
  • Good English communication.
